Margareta Wärja

Dr Margareta Wärja is the Director and co-founder of Expressive Arts Stockholm. She is a Licensed Psychotherapist, Expressive Arts and Music Therapist, and a practicing musician. Margareta serves as faculty at NIKUT (Expressive Arts Institute, Oslo), the Music Therapy Program at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, and the PhD program in Expressive Arts at the European Graduate School in Switzerland. With over 30 years of experience, she is a certified trainer and facilitator of the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM)—a method developed by Helen Bonny, a pioneer in early psychedelic research and a key figure in exploring the role of music in LSD-assisted psychotherapy in the 1950s and 60s. Building on this legacy, Margareta has developed an adaptation of the GIM method, which was tested and demonstrated positive outcomes in her PhD research focused on cancer rehabilitation.
